OK. It is the ever-lasting problem with windows using CR/LF while UNIX uses LF. The whole story.
A system that expects a number of FRL files sent to it. And of cause I do have the problem that I must remove the CR from each file that is transferred over the samba mount. However, Samba does not actually create a pointer to the file. So commands such as fuser cannot tell if it is open. And the users are not happy with the idea of waiting a minute or so before they start moving the file. So I started looking at possibilities. Seems like samba-fu might be able to use it, but I do not know if it is supported or where I can get more info. I was especially interested in the "file close" function.
Does anyone have any ideas? I cannot tech them anything. I'd be better of rewriting the UNIX kernel for a 17-bit processor with a fetish for Aramaic then to teach the users FTP.
