Help

Installed the above from Bull's website on a AIX5.1 P275 with the latest ML applied and when I go to start nmbd i get the following error :
root@hpsynt1 [sbin] # ./nmbd -D
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program ./nmbd because of the following errors:
0509-150 Dependent module /usr/lib/libiconv.a(libiconv.so.2) could not
be loaded.
0509-152 Member libiconv.so.2 is not found in archive

Any ideas?

What is the best release of Samba to use with AIX5.1??

Thanks

Thanks for your reply but still the same error message .... downloaded and untarred but still the same. Am i missing something?

If I do a find on my box for libiconv*, I get:
/usr/lib/libiconv.a
Is that where your library is located?

I also have this is my env
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=:/usr/lib:/lib:/usr/local/lib:/opt/samba/lib

"If you always do what you've always done, you will always be where you've always been."

Found 2 locations for the file :

/usr/lib/libiconv.a - original file
/usr/local/special/lib/libiconv.a - This one is from the link you gave.

Didn't have anything in my enviroment so added the following :

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib:/usr/local/special/lib

but still the same error?

I seem to re-call that the Bull package gave me issues as well.
I now always just compile from source.
I definitely know that the UCLA packages work well, so maybe try:

"If you always do what you've always done, you will always be where you've always been."

Thanks for the link, downloaded and installed into ../usr/local/samba-3.0.10. but cannot find the nmbd file to start. Can find a directory under /usr/local/samba-3.0.10/source/nmbd which has loads of nmbd files under it but nothing that you run. Any ideas please ....

It should be in /usr/local/samba-3.0.10/sbin

Now you know why I compile from source :)

"If you always do what you've always done, you will always be where you've always been."

Sorry to keep on but found it in ..... /usr/local/samba-3.0.10/source/bin , so ran nmbd -D and got the following error :
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program ./nmbd because of the following errors:
0509-150 Dependent module /usr/lib/libldap.a(libldap-2.2.so.7) could n
ot be loaded.
0509-153 File /usr/lib/libldap.a is not an archive or
the file could not be read properly.
0509-026 System error: Cannot run a file that does not have a valid form
at.
Getting the feeling this is never going to work !!!

Well, it's moving along at least
Looks like the package was compiled with LDAP support.
Install OpenLDAP...
It's either on the AIX Linux toolbox or the AIX expansion pack. (Or download from UCLA)
