Need advise on setting up a networked 6400 printer to aix 5.1 server

We usually use jetdirect to print to networked printers.

I have downloaded the 6400 driver

I see on the printer there is a port 9100 so have setup using our usual jetdirect smitty screen

Send some prints to the printer using lp but though the q shows running nothing is spewing out the other end

Looking at network status on printer it shows the port 9100 in synrec state not established

Ohh and just for good measure the printer is behind a firewall with a nat address from server though have been assured port 9100 is open

Any help appreciated before i lose what little hair I now have

Sounds like you have set it up correctly. A few ideas...

Given that the printer is behind a firewall some other ports might be involved. Here is a list:

Also, depending upon the type of firewall you might have to permit traffic in both directions. Typically if the traffic is initiated from behind the firewall, the firewall will automatically permit the reply. In your case, the traffic is initiated from outside the firewall, so I think you might have to explicity permit traffic in the other direction, from the printer back to the sending system.

Finally, since a firewall is involved, you might need to increase the back end timeout on for the jetdirect queue.

seems issue is not with me !!!

the Firewall team hadnt put the rule in correctly so have now managed to print using port 9100

Thanks
