Hello,
We are in the process of creating an AIX 5.1 lpar which will have 32gb memory. Does anybody give me the configuration that managed server needs? (Especially memory).
I have configured AIX 5.1 lpar's with <16gb memory. I never configured aix 5.1 partition with 32gb.

Thanks

This is from way back so bear with me...

Your server would need to have 48GB at least and it needs to be a p4 server (AIX5.1) because AIX 51 memory model for large mem config needs a first segment of 16GB at a 16GB boundary. The 0GB segment (256MB) is for hypervisor memory and the top part of memory (128 or 256MB from the top of memiry downwards) is for device driver memory access (TCE memory).

So on a 32GB machine there is no 16GB boundary with 16GB free memory space. - A p5 only supports AIX52 and 53.

Also it is safest to activate this partition first, in order to safely allocate the 16GB space from the 16GB boundary to the 32GB boundary. The other 16GB will be allocated in 256MB chunks somewhere in the free memory.

HTH,
