I am migrating AIX 4.3 from an old MC box to a H80. I am sure to run into problems in installing the rootvg Volume Group. In the first place if I
back up a MKSYSB image of the old bax and install it on the new one what
king of issues could I land into.

Secondly if the above could be done theres one more problem. I have diff
Tape drives. Will it be possible to take a MKSYSB on an NFS and than do a
N/w install or some thing ? We do not have a NIM server ? So is it possible
to install from a Network if I take the MKSYSB image on a NFS mounted FS
on any one of the other servers.

Also if u know about any documentation/ resources abt this please let me
know.

Thanks

Garry

Problema may be:
H80 is MultiProcessor - so mksysb misses mp support
MCA machine misses PCI support
so : it may be easiesr to install brand new 4.3.3 or 5.1 and move your apps via another means of backup like tar/cpio/whatever via rsh/ssh/nfs/whatever

You can restore the mksysb to the H80. However, you will need to have the 4.3.3 CD (Preferrably one with a later ML release included)in the CD Rom Drive. There is an option in the smit menu to copy the necessary PCI drivers when performing the mksysb restore.

I may be mistaken, but I am sure you must use NIM to network-install from mksysb. IBM Certified -- AIX 4.3 Obfuscation
