I need to be able to download from remote web server using IE Adobe Illustratort files.
I use to download almost all files (extensions) just typing a URL with a name of file, it pop ups a window with an invitation to download.

However I have a problem with AI files
IE recognizes them as an image and tries to open in IE body without download option.
How to eliminate this, making ai file unknown to IE, so it will give a download prompt?

thanks for advices

OK, below is how to do what you're asking but, making this change for this file type will prompt you to download, even if you want the AI file to open in your browser. In other words - I don't want to see a post from scindex a week from now that goes something like: AI files used to open in my browser & now they don't, what happened? [thumbsup2]

Open Windows Explorer (not IE), Tools, Folder Options, File Types tab, scroll down & select the file type in question, Advanced button, check the 'Confirm Open after Download' option, OK

thanks for respond

2 questions (before making changes)

1
Advanced tab is not clickable (it is there but not active)
i use win 2000 server, logged as admin

2
there are few AI related records
- AI - AI artwork
- AIA - AI action file
- AIP - AI plugin
- DCT - AI spelling dictionary
- DWG - AI DWG
- DXF
- FLT - AI filter
- HYP
- SBX - AI Tsume file

do i have to change all these records?

1. This might be a server specific thing, possibly limited by policy. I haven't used 2000 server for browsing, but I know that 2003 is very difficult to use as a workstation web browser. Do you have to use the browser on the server to download these files?

2. Yes [as required], you would need to change this setting for any file types you want to be prompted for downloading. That is, file types that you would be accessing directly either by hyperlink or directly typing into the IE address bar. If you don't directly access a particular file type, you would not need to do this. Some might already be set this way.
