AI file size

Is there a way to bring the file size down in Illustrator10? I have a file that is a brick wall and is made up of a bitmap texture file, red color and some vector line art. I had to jump between PS and AI to complete this and the size is approaching 400MB...yes you read it right 400MB. The file fits in an area of 8-1/2" x 11". Any ideas here? I have computer renderings and CAD files that have never gotten this big. Is there a purge command or something? Any help is appreciated.

One thing you can try is to do a save as. Just doing save will add the new information and not get rid of any changes in the file. Other than that I don't have enough info to know if anything else right now.
