Is there anyone else having issues with CS2 in regards to corrupt files, errors with operators, files not opening, messages about previewing being turned off due to complex or large files etc... If so what are some of the fixes? I've done periodic saves and save as copy and continued to work only to get to the end of the job and have to go back and redo the final touches from the original file, or go back two or three file saves to be able to find a file that works. I've never seen a program as uncompromising as this one. Any tips to continue working rather then having to redo files. The first file I worked on grew to be 44MB now I'm working on a file about 2MB. I have turned off the pdf compatible file, however only after receiving errors that it couldn't print the pdf. Just attemtping to get my arms around a program that seems very unstable.

Most errors can be fixed by deleting the AIPrefs file (which Adobe should really take care of).

Thanks J,
However it seems that even with removing the file and doing exactly what everything I've read for best practices leaves this piece of software handling poorly. Example. Working on a particular file with 2 layers. I "Placed" the images vs copy and paste, I saved often without linking or embedding the image files. I made sure that prior to closing that no issues with linked files exist. I made 3 extra copies of the file before I closed as Save, Save as and Save a copy. I did with link files checked and without. When I closed the file everything seemed fine. Upon opening 2 of the 3 files I got 2 different error messages both relating to operators. One was a "," the other a "XI". I renamed the iaprefs file on the first error only to get the second error. I opened the third file and it's going through the read TIFF RGB File and finally opened up. I just installed the latest build version 12 after buying it on yesterday. I had been using the Trial version and it ran out. That program gave me almost no issues except for the last day. I have verified any printer, network or local issues, I have almost 40 GB of free space on a 2.4GB and 1 GB of memory on a Centrino laptop bought 4-5 months ago. Late last week I defragged the drive. Is there anything else that could possibly be the issue except for the program. I've actually installed, removed and reinstalled the program. If the ADOBE Support were open I would be calling them except they only work weekdays. I just came into the program after I provided a map to a collegue and was asked to make a specific map which I did in the trial version and have subsequently printed in bulk and have begun to sell. I'm working on the thrid of 4 maps only to have this issue. Any other inputs would be greatly appreciated. I am a network engineer with 5 years and have never seen a program like this with this many issues.

Thank you.

Wow, Dave, I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work. Unfortunately I can't be of any further help, as I don't know about any other conflicts that might occur with AI.

If you don't receive any further help here, try asking at the Adobe User to User Forums ( There are some power users over there - and some I think are even better than the techs that work at Adobe. (Not that there aren't any power users here as well, but no one has jump in this thread yet.)

I'm guessing it has something to do with your install or machine. If you read the various questions on this forum, you'll see that most are related to "how do I do this" and few are related to malfunctions.

My guess, only a guess, is that youu had a bad install and, when removing AI, everything wasn't removed (like prefs whcih is not removed). I know all the related files on a mac machine, but don't know them on a pc.

Hello JM,

You know, I'm a pretty savey user however I'll submit to the benefit of the doubt, So clean, manual uninstall following Adobe's procedures, files, registry etc. Reboot and a clean install. Now what the heck is going on with this program. I work and do all of the saves necessary, every 5 minutes and after a big change. I even make a copy of the file with save a copy at the same time. You know that every once in a while you have to close the program. Now not one copy will open, nor the main file will open!!!!!!!!!!!!!. And all I have to look forward to is a company customer service that doesn't have the best track history. POS.

I've check path counts, below 5,000. I have all of the images Placed. I've linked the files and they are all in the source folder together with the file. The size of the working file is under 2MB. I have a 2.+ GB CPU Dual Cintrino, 1GB of memory and a defraged drive a week and a half ago. What else am I missing. It's not the install nor the computer. Adobe if you monitor this site please provide some assistance to the issues.

AFAIK Adobe doesn't monitor this site. You do seem to have some issues, but it's not entirely fair to call the program a POS just because it's not working right for you. In my experience, it's usually something on a user's computer causing this kind of trouble.

To counter-balance, I run CS2 (as I have run every version since 4.01) without any kind of significant trouble, I rarely have to close/restart the program, in fact I run it on my laptop and normally put it on standby between sessions and it runs CS2 great.

I did have trouble in the past whenever I tried to run it on a machine that had any kind of Norton security software. Norton is the single biggest bane of Illustrator users, so most people I know who run Illustrator go with Macafee or other virus software.

You're Right Bert,

POS (Piece of Software) I spoke to an Adobe Tech Support on the issue. I basically came down to something within my file is corrupt. So here is what I surmised. A best practice of linking files with place vs copy/paste or embed, depends. The linking for me hasn't worked nor the embed method. I'm also saving as normal and then also closing and reopening the prorgam to make sure that eerything is working in the file as I go along.

I've made two other files just like this one. I'm going back to recreate the images into a new file. When I get done and if everything works then I'll lay my second layer swathes on top to reduce the time to recreate. This will be the third attempt.
