Please Help, I have written a macro in excel and saved as normal etc before closing down. Now when I want to open my file I get a white screen in excel and then it closes and I cant do anything. I dont care about the content of the file except for my program. Is there any way I can get the macro out of this file?

It may have hit every branch on its way out of the ugly tree, but hey! It works. (but don't quote me on that)

Andrew,

have you tried opening the workbook and disabling the macros? If you do not get a message box giving you the option then you will need to go to tools\options\general and you will see the option for macro virus protection check this box.

when disabling your macros this will allow you to open the workbook and view the VBA i presume there is something in the workbook module that is causing your error comment it out save and open again see if it still happens.

Scott I have already tried this to no avail, I have also tried all methods of opening that I can think off - FILE toolbar, opening from another workbook, importing, opening into word, opening from a macro all with no luck and no idea of what is happening. I have not got any macros that start on opening and all previous saves are all fine. If I paste the file into notepad the file appears to be all there. I have also tried resaving from notepad and opening but this doesnt work.
I tlooks like I have lost my program for good. I have rewritten most of it by now but I would like to understand why the error arose in the first place and if there are any ways of getting the data back if it were to happen again.
Thanks again

Andrew i have had this error before i have no idea why it happened but it did......i did manage to get around it by opening the file in Windows XP which allowed me to view and export all of my objects to a new workbook in effect copying it without copying it.

Unfortunately I only have Windows 2000 available, but you have given me an idea - i will look for a excel viewer/converter and see if that will lead to anything.

Have you tried to open your workbook with the Shift key depressed (macros still allowed) and then loaded go to VBE ?

Hope This Help, PH.

No luck with ny of those. Thank you all for your help, I have rewritten all of my code now but it would still be useful to find out a way of opening a file like this.
Thanks again.
