I'm building a new box, with a Soyo 370 motherboard, 64mb GeForce4 MX440-se agp. Running Win98.

The problem lies with the video card. I have installed all the other cards successfully. When I put in the agp card, it loads fine, but after I install the updated drivers and reboot the display disappears. I see the memory check, and the irq settings, but after it shows the first Win98 screen, it goes black, the system still boots. But no display.

Any ideas.

Make sure that you have installed the latest drivers for your motherboard chipset.

Actually, that's going to be hard to do without video won't it? How did you get the other cards and win98 installed without video?

any chance your monitor is crap and the card is simply putting out more than it can take ?

1. yes latest drivers for everything.

2. when i first had the problem i used an pci card that i have.

3. monitor is less than 2 months old, it can to go up to 1600 x 1200. and i wouldnt spend $300 on a flat screen 19' piece of crap.

new info, i pulled all the cards, reinstalled my pci card, then reinstalled all the other cards, system worked for about 4 hours. then same issue

I had the same problem on my old machine. It was running Win 98 and when I wanted to install a GeForce 2 MX I couldn't get it to work. After I upgraded the OS to Windows ME everything worked fine.

Try going into safe mode<F8 upon boot, then select option 3>. If you can get into safe mode with no problem, lower your screen resolution and change the refresh rate to adapter default. Reboot and see if it will let you into Windows normally. If so, you can readjust your display settings. Enkrypted
A+
