I just received a new copy of the 'BackupExec Agent for Win2k'. I was surprised to see that the installation guide consisted of 6 steps on a 4x8" strip of paper. I've read too many glitches on the boards to know better than to go exactly by them. So I'm hoping I can explain my system and see what you all might suggest for a (less) hastle free install?

Server1 is an existing WinNT server that is a domain controller and SQLserver machine. It is running an old version of ARCservit for backing up data that is in use today.

Server2 is a brand new Win2K (sp3) server to which I have installed BackupExec 8.6 Build 3808 Server Edition. It will also run SQLserver for a new system install.

I'd like to get rid of the ARCservit software on Server1, and have Server2 run nightly backups on itself, as well as Server1. I bought the BEagent to install on Server1.

What process would you recommend for me to get BackupExec up and running on Server2 so that it too backs up Server1?

Hope you can help,

Mike

Easy

1)Install the new license key for the remote agent on Server2 & "Push" the remote agent out to server 1 from server2.

2)To do this:
Start-->settings-->control panel-->add/remove programs-->highlight "Veritas Backup Exec 8.x" select change/remove-->select "Install additional options"(it will probably ask you for the CD).
Select "Install Backup Exec options on remote computers"
Add you new license key & click next.
The remote agent should now be there to select. Click next & select the Domain & computers you wish to install the remote agent on.

Note:
1) NT4 machines should have a minimum of service pack 4 installed.
2)If you are backing up an SQL database its a good idea to use the SQL agent, or you will have to shut the database while the backup is running.

Hope this helps
