I am trying to back up a number of remote servers on the same LAN, using Arcserve V7.0. All the jobs run through fine except for the last one, which ends up getting canceled.

There is no error in the ArcServe activity log except for a warning 4 hours earlier complaining that the DR files cannot be created.

In the agent log on the Arcserve server there is the following error:

Failed to span tape.
Failed to backup data to media. BOF. RC=1

In the Agent log on the remote server is this, which indicates to me that the job is being cancelled by the server.

23:30 Start Backup operation. Start time: 9/24/03 23:23:30
36:01 Receive abort command from ARCserveIT.
36:06 Backup operation cancelled. End time: 9/25/03 0:36:06

I have searched the activity log and there are no errors reported, I have also searched on the CAI site and cannot find any reference to this.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi
1-Is SP4 is applied if not please apply it support.cai.com
2-Apply the latest tape Engine update from CA support site
3-Are you using tape drive or tape library and what is the size of the tapes you are using?
4-what is the size of data you are backing?

It look to me that your backup require more tapes and no enougth tapes exist to span this why the jobs get cancelled.

answer the above questions and apply the patches if you aren't yet applied.

also put the tape engine in debug mode and see if the tape.log shows any errors.
