I asked this question before, but I wasn't very clean on what I what I was trying to do.

First question:
Can you set up remote access to a Partner ACS R3 - R6 with out purchasing a the Partner ACS Remote Access,Backup/ Restore Card. Using a external modem of some sort. If so, how.

Second question:
How in the heck do you connect to a Partner ACS R3 - R6 using the Administration Software to program the Partner with a lab top when on site ( not trying to connect remotely). I'm guessing you have to have the remote card to do this, and intercom to ext 76 or something.

Thanks for the info.

First: no. There is no provision for an external modem or a hack for an external modem on pre-R7 systems.

Second: You have to connect via the RAC. The most common way to connect locally is by using a spare extension port with autoline selection set to intercom first, then the modem dials 76.

I had a problem similar to your second question. I was trying to connect to a partner R6 and R7 using a Dell laptop and I had problems connecting using my internal modem. I was told by Avaya tech support that there is an issue with remote access using certain modems. I had to purchase a US Robotics external modem and this solved my problem. From there you do a Direct Dial connect, select the external modem and dial Telephone Number 76. From an extension port with intercom dial tone as 392(Instructor) stated in his response to your question.

Another trick when using a laptop on-site is to have the laptop access an outside line, and call an in-bound number into the Partner. Ask the person answering the call to transfer to x76. By routing your modem call through a phone company central office, the signal level is reduced to a level that the built-in modem expects (hey, it's a remote access card, right?)

Good point, but not always practical when working after hours.

I normally just plug into the AUX jack, select intercom on the phone and the Remote Admin dials 76. Done. On the R7, I'm right into the comm port - love that, it's faster.
