I have tried to reset my WAP54G.

The Setup Utility reports unable to locate the Wireless-G Access point, and suggests making sure the device is properly linked to the router and powered up - it is.

I also have a small utility "IP Scanner". It detects all the other devices, gives no indication of the WAP between 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.255

Entering the default IPAddress of produces "page not found" and the admin/password screen does not appear.

The router indicates it's present via the port light, but it's not listed as an attached device.

My (Netgear) router is acting as the DHCP Server, and the range is 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.255.

According to the User Guide, to Reset the Access Point's factory defaults, press the Reset Button for approximately ten seconds.

Other sources suggest longer, and immediately disconnecting the power as well. I have tried all these options several times without success.

Any ideas on how to reset it to ANY address?

Many thanks.

So the unit shows it is powered up and you get a link indication on the switch port, but no activity otherwise. Did you try to PING the default IP as well?

If that doen't work, you may have a defective unit. You might check with Linksys for options?

Hope this helps!

Yes. "PING 192.168.1.245 -t" repeatedly gives "Request timed out"

The yellow "Cisco Systems" light flases after the rest to suggest it's trying to set the address.

I'm going to find a replacement CAT5 cable as a last resort.

The device had been working earlier in the day - I'm transferring it to another router. The Linksys web support isn't fantastic, and the device is a couple of years old (Ver3.1)

I'm also going to set the PC to a local static IP like 192.168.1.2 and connect the WAP directly to it.

If the WAP's IP adddress has been reset, one of:

1. a ping to 192.168.1.245,
2. the LinkSys Setup,
3. my IPScanner or
4. in the browser

ought to find it!

It was very simple really - faulty cable.

I exchanged the cable from the router to the WAP for the one I use at work for my laptop, and bingo - there was the login at 192.168.1.245.

All is now well - except for a new password and changes to some IP addresses which some drivers detected automatically, others didn't.

I have learned that:
a) Google Chrome won't accept a void username (which is the Linksys default), but FF and IE do.
b) I had downloaded the wrong version of the LinkSys setup utility as I couldn't find the original CD-ROM. It is firmware specific.

Thanks for all your help.
