I did a quick restore to a friend's Compaq 5050 Presario the other day. I did a Windows Update immediately following the QR. Thought everything was okay, but noticed when surfing the net that most of the pictures wouldn't paint on the browser screen (IE6). Instead, there was the square placeholder box with the small red X in the corner. I checked the IE6 settings, advanced, and it was set to display images. I checked Windows Explorer and saw that jpg files were associated with IE. It was late, so I had to leave. I need to get back there and fix it. Any ideas?

There might be something for you here: thread608-199497

Have a good read of the thread Smah has indicated, you may find the answer there, but my guess is that you'll be more confused than ever.

Just humour an old man and try this out. Firstly check your IE settings to ensure that you have selected to show pictures (under media tab in advanced). Get on the net and download graphics from a varied selection of sites (tip fashion wear is good as is Amazon, but you get a bit of spyware from them). Are you still getting red crosses in placeholders rather than JPG or GIF?

Do the same thing for three days with the same settings, and I think you'll find that on at least one day, the graphics were OK. Conclusion - it's nothing to do with your browser, but more to do with your ISP and the connections they offer. Regards
Phil
