hello all... I have a cisco 2950 switch, but i dont know the password to it. So i want to do this process to it to reset the password
after i do that is all of my configuration going to be intact?
I see that i have to rename the config file etc...
This is my first time ever touching a cisco switch =)
Just want to be on the safe side of not erasing the configuration of the switch for it to work. I just want to reset the password to my own password.

Thanks
Laura

Yes, your configuration should be fine. What you are doing is this

1: You are renaming the configuration before the device boots. This means your device will load with the default configuration, and more imporantly... NO PASSWORD
2: After getting into the configuration mode so you can change the settings, you are reloading your configuration.
3: Your config is now back in place, and you are able to change your password.
