same problem like in thread : thread52-859978

I downloaded the 2 filesets from IBM fix central devices.pci.14107802.rte.5.2.0.0.bff
devices.pci.14107802.ucode.5.2.0.0.bff

But after "Copy Software to Hard Disk for Future Installation"
I get the same filesets (other sizes) from the 2 sources :
600064 devices.pci.14107802.5.2.0.0.I
2125824 devices.pci.14107802.5.2.0.0.I.1

copy the two files to a seperate directory
cd to that dir
run "inutoc ."
use smit list_media_sw to see what is in the install files - use "." as "INPUT device / directory for software"

HTH,

p5wizard

the first fileset (size 600064 from .rte) shows :

devices.pci.14107802 ALL
@ 5.2.0.0 PCI-X Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI RAID Adapter Software

the second fileset (size 2125824 from .ucode) shows the same :

devices.pci.14107802 ALL
@ 5.2.0.0 PCI-X Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI RAID Adapter Microcode

I beg to differ...

devices.pci.14107802 ALL
@ 5.2.0.0 PCI-X Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI RAID Adapter Software
devices.pci.14107802 ALL
@ 5.2.0.0 PCI-X Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI RAID Adapter Microcode

first fileset is the AIX device driver
second is the firmware that sits on the adapter itself...

HTH,

OK thank you
but why does the "Copy Software to Hard Disk for Future Installation" from rte.xxx.bff and ucode.xxx.bff generate the same fileset devices.pci.14107802.xxx ?
The 2 base filesets .rte and .ucode are missing prereqs and wenn I put only the one to the lppsource then the other base fileset is missing and vice versa ...
There must be a packaging problem

I agree, there's a packaging / naming problem, but when you run bffcreate (Copy Software to Hard Disk...), the system finds a filename already used and so creates a new file with extension .1 .2 etc...

The files that it dumps into the install files are probably OK.

It used to be some versions ago, that a file would be silently overwritten - that created major problems...

In fact the name of the files don't matter, it's the contents of the .toc file (table of contents) that point the install programs to the correct install file, whichever name they have...

HTH,

OK I will reput the 2 filesets to the lppsource with the names devices.pci.14107802.5.2.0.0.I
devices.pci.14107802.5.2.0.0.I.1

the one corresponding to .rte. and the other to .ucode. and try the update and hope the 2 missing prereqs will be resolved

I retried the migration from aix 5.1 to aix 5.2 ml07 and the missing filesets prereqs where resolved

Thx
