after installing MS updates Cannot turn on Windows Firewall Error code

Hi, I have a brand new Windows 2008 server, which worked great for a couple weeks and after the windows updates were installed friday night i am unable to turn on the fire wall and my 3 laptops who are connected are now unable to connect anymore I get that message:

Remote Desktop can’t connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:

1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) The remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network

Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled.

I am able to ping the laptop from the server
I am able to connect to the laptop from the server

I am unable to ping the server from the Laptop
I am able to go online on the laptop and server

I restarted the Router
I restarted the Server

Any ideas what else I can try, thanks

Did you install any type of third party anit-virus software that has a built in firewall? I've seen this several times with Trend and others.
