After Hard Rive Upgrade DVD drive will not read DVD's

I have a HP Pavlion A610 PC that had an orriginal Seagate 40GB hard drive and a Lite on DVD REader. I swapped out the Hard drive with WD 500GB hard drive and now my DVD drive will not read DVD's. It will function as a CD drive ok. I have looked at the device manager it shows the drive as a DVD drive but play options as are not in Windows Media Player ( ver 11)
Does anyone know what might be going on here?

You may be missing some codecs after the swap. Try downloading the K-lite Codec Pack
