After defrag O mbs showing in db

Running Exchange 5.5 sp2. Keep receiving an error message in outlook that a message cannot be received due to lack of disk space. Using a 4gb drive with 85% free. In NT event viewer, log reports that after online defrag the db has 0 mbs left. Have consulted technet and exchange kb but still at a loss. Have not found any looped messages etc. and there are no restrictions in place of mailbox size. Any thoughts????? Thanks

Can post the exact message?

Have thought about upgrading to sp4 on Exch? And sp6 on NT?
 
Where the exchange database files are located? Log files, working files, etc...Are there on the C: drive or spread accros the hard drives?
