Somehow managing our Nortel Norstar system landed on me like Dorothy's house! Am trying to get our phone system to behave how it used to behave after making one change yesterday.

Would like to have system after 6 unanswered rings (no matter what time of day, etc.) to go to the company greeting followed immediately by the tone to leave a message for the General Delivery mailbox.

Currently after 6 unanswered rings the system goes to the company greeting. After the company greeting there is a 14 second pause after which time a recording says "the operator is not available", followed by my recording of for the general delivery mailbox. Then the tone.

Can anyone help me get rid of the 14 second pause, "operator is not avaiable", and recording for the general delilvery mailbox!

Thanks in advance.

Undo your change.

Would rather fix this problem, than undo the fix for the problem yesterday and have that problem back. But thanks for your help.

You didn't say you had a problem before you made your change.

Remove the DN entered in ATDT. The voice mail is trying to transfer to an ext before sending the caller to the GDM.

To remove the GDM recording you must log into the GD mailbox. Depending on your dialing plan the mailbox # will be 10, 100, 1000.

Sorry bout that allworxguy and thanks for your help.

So now in F982 I have changed atdt to (none) and in F983 have change the Greeting Table #1 atdt to (none). Not sure if this is where I was supposed to remove the dn.

Haven't tried to remove the GDM recording yest, but still am getting the 14 second pause after the company greeting. What am I missing?

I would not suggest to have callers dump into GD, you will get a lot of hangups from people that don't want to leave a message.
You should give people the choice if they want to leave a message and not try to force them.

However in Call Pilot this can be done.
For Flash ext I think I used to make the ADTN DN in Table = 000

ALWAYS post type and version of software when posting, F983 login and press 9.

Turn answer lines off, then set cfda on set with general delivery to forward to vm after six rings. This will eliminate the callers options though.

As said above, the Flash AA is not capable of routing direct to the GDM after a greeting. Use CFNA on a ringing phone to the Flash. The phone must have the GDM as its voice mail box.

Type and version of software is N*Flash 2.0.10 (sorry bout that and thanks curlycord for the heads up).

Have tried suggestions so far without the success we we are looking for. Our company greeting ask folks to call back during regular hours (which are stated) or leave a message at the tone. We are a small organization, so no problem picking up the phone before 6 rings when we are open. So curlycord we're ok with dumping callers into the GDM after a pause cause that's only going to happen when we are closed. Most offensive part of the current set up is the 14 second pause (most callers would just hang up without getting to the opportunity to leave a message) followed by "The operator is not available" message. Phoneguy427, when we turn answer lines off, we loose the company greeting. Allworxguy, not sure how to "use CFNA on a ringing phone to the Flash". Can you elaborate?

As an alternate we could change the greeting to say "please call back or press __ to leave a message at the tone" but I am not sure how to set that up either.

Thanks so much guys for any help you can give.

This idea would make your task a lot simpler. If I understand you correctly you want to use the voice mail essentially like a
answering machine. The callers don't have any option but to leave a message. In that case you dont need to have a general delivery
box at all. You can use the voicemail box on the phone you want to retrieve the messages from. Here is how. First you must make sure
that no extensions have call forward to the voice mail port on busy or no answer accept the extension you want calls to go to voice
mail if no answers. Set call forward No answer to 6 rings on that extension. Record your greeting in that box. Set the lines to answer
"no" so that the voice mail greeting and options are not used. Hope that helps!

Pccsipoffice,

I have made sure no extensions have call forward like you said, etc. etc. etc. Set lines to answer no. When I test I do not hear the company greeting, I hear nothing then am disconnected.

I think you need to set the main phone with the GD Mailbox Forward to voice mail after 6 rings.
make the greeting in the gd mailbox complete with everything you want to say and not use the AA .
