Sold my old computer (AMD k6 233, win95)to a neighbor. It had IE5.5 on it and it worked just fine. She installed AOL 5.0, which uses IE5.0 and she could never open a web page. She could do AOL e-mail and look at AOL content. She always got the message "Page can not be opened" or "Action Cancelled" both with a dns error. Everything I've seen suggested has been tried; AOL uninstalled, IE5.5 reinstalled, AOL network adapter deleted, wsock32.dll replaced, TCP/IP dial-up adapter replaced etc, etc. Still no luck accessing the web. Format c:\ and reinstalling Win95 is my last ditch solution, one I don't want to do. Please help me avoid having to do this. Thanks.

Ryanltd,

Before you re-installed AOL, did you make sure that the IE folder was gone? If that didn't work, perhaps it would be better to have an older version (4.0) of IE installed and then AOL. The AOL installation shouldn't "see" any software that's newer.

I like to have different browsers on my PC because I used to do a lot of web page designing, and I wanted to make sure it viewed OK from any browser. I only ran into trouble when it came time to install a new AOL version.... confusedlady

Yes, the IE folder was gone. THERE WILL BE NO VERSION OF AOL EVER INSTALLED ON THIS MACHINE AGAIN!!! I will buy it back before I'll let that happen! I'll refrain from saying why.
