Hello!

I just had a virus which corrupted some windows files. I removed the virus, booted from the windows CD and ran windows repair to replace the deleted windows files (MSHTA.EXE)

When i finished and rebooted my second HD contected via IDE no longer showed up. If i run partition manager it shows up but nolonger has the letter that I assigned it (J:) if i try to change the drives letter it gives me an error. I'm getting a bit nervious!

Does anyone have a suggestion to get my drive functional again?

Thanks!
Shaun

What Windows Version are you running?
If XP can you go into Drive Management and assign a Drive letter to it there?

Right Click on My Computer->Manage-> Drive Management

If not XP, you'll likely need a Data recovery software such as GetDataBack from runtime.org

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Have to ask the stock question:

Prior to the repair, were you running GoBack?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I found out what the problem was. The windows repair has rolled my system back and deleted all service packs and updates, drivers, etc so I'm having to start from scratch putting everything back on

Consiquently after the repair windows wasnt supporting volumes higher than 137 gb and thats why the drive wasnt showing. After installing service pack 2 again it showed up

Thanks!
Shaun

Ah, very good find! Thanks for reporting back. I had forgotten one loses all installed fixes after a repair install!

unless of course one slipstreams latest service pack & creates a new install CD first! (nlite being easiest way to do this).
