We just had a blow out on our Exchange 2000 server, and all of the e-mail seemed to restore using Veritas BE 8.6, but the public folders (public calendars mainly), private contact lists, and private calendars do not restore.

The contact lists appear to be restored, but they are blank (the odd thing is that they have the names if they contain a phone number, but do not File properly. If they have e-mail addresses only, they do not show at all).

Is there something that can be done to either:

1) Restore these
2) Prevent this from happening again

The Exchange server was basically wiped out clean, and rebuilt, so the restore had to (to the best of my knowledge) be done as a redirect.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

It looks as if we may have figured out the issue. It appears the Information Store was not named the same as it was before, and due to redirect, it appears that e-mail accounts will show back up, but things like Public Folders, and Calendars do not redirect properly (unless there is something that I'm missing).

Anyway, after doing some further research, we will be ordering BE 9.0 and the IDR (Intelligent Disaster Recovery) in case of a total failure like what happened. In this case, it appears we should be able to boot to floppy on the server, and restore the complete state of the server from the latest backup.

If anyone has any input to this, it would greatly appreciated (such as experiences with IDR and BE 9.0 or even using BE 8.6 to recover contact lists and public folders). Thanks for any help.
