advise creating realistic looking smoke

Hello, I am looking for some advise on creating realistic looking animated smoke. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hmm.. i didnt think flash can create realistic looking smoke ....maybe try java applet??
 
I did this ages ago - maybe it's the effect you're after:


It's a mock 'particle' system, I can't find the .fla anywhere as it's so long since I did this but here's a rough idea:

There's one main movieclip which is a circle graphic filled with a grey coloured gradient which fades out to transparent at the edges (done in the 'color mixer' panel).

This clip is duplicated many times in actionScript and the duplicated clips are moved by random amounts each frame to give a drifting effect, their _alpha setting is also reduced each frame and their size increased using the _xscale and _yscale properties.

Once a clip has reached the top of the screen it's removed from the movie and a new one is generated at the start in its place.
