my company needs a temp vmail system just to support out service techs for 1 year till ip based system is implemented.

I figure with the used market, can we purchase and install an octel 250 with 48 port, 4000 mailboxes, outcall notifcaiton, interfacing with avaya G3r, no message waiting needed. tape backup and (MAYBE lan card for OAS) installed and programmed in 30 days.

PS: would this use the FLTA cards?

also what would be a reasonable price. sorry mgmt drop this on me to find out in a day or so

any cavets? if anyone has recommendations as to problems, or good vendor/installer. please let me know.

Sure, you can purchase a used system. The cost for this will be the big caveat (IMO). You will need to re-license the system to get 4000 mailboxes, 48 ports, and a LAN with the OAS Server would be my guess. I would say go with the FLT-A cards.

Another option to consider is going staight to the Avaya Modular Messaging platform. It will handle the G3r now and you can use it on your IP based system when it is implemented.

I'm just guessing that an Octel 250 with 48 ports and 4000 mailboxes is going to be expensive.

Yes it would be much cheaper to go with MM as the re-license fee is just like buying a new system on a 250. The 350 fee is only for the ports. And i am not sure they are even doing that any more.
