I am currently studying for my CCNA after 35 years in voice telephony. I must admit this is a challenge as I have little or no experience in the data field. Anyway to get to the point I have set up my own lab (basically 3 2600 routers and a 2900 switch) I have also decided to make it ready for going down the voice path But I don't know what router to buy for this purpose. I have been looking at the 1751 and 1721 routers as they appear to be suitable and cheap can anyone advise whether this is the way to go or suggest a better alternative (please note this is being done on a budget)

You have to get your CCNA first then your CCNA voice certificate. I recommend taking the new C-Voice exam for your ccna voice, then you will only have fout more exams for CCVP.

If you could get a 2800 series router for voice that would be good, although if you could get your hands on a UC500 that would be great.

Your track should take about three years, good luck!
