Hi,

I'm looking to move our RS6000 server from our old offices to some new offices about 10 miles away. These servers are about 7-8 years old and have been constantly running all this time, apart from the odd powerdown for an hour or so.

Does anyone have any experience in moving these types of machines. Would just a power down and carefully load into a truck be enough or is there a set procedure that people have followed in the past.

I'd be very gratefull for any advice

Thanks

My advice:

Full backup and mksysb.
Another one.

Power it down.

Have an insured moving company move it.

Bring it back up.

Post your question in the AIX forum for other opinions.

Having done this last year, I agree with bjverzal, especially 'use an insured moving company'

You may want to have an IBM engineer on standby 'just in case'
