Advice on Database Backup/Removal

One of our Linux partitions is running into space issues and there are a couple databases on this partition that are not needed and would free up a significant amount of space.
Instead of blowing the db's away entirely, I'd like to somehow back them up (onto a different partition) just in case the slim chance someone needed it down the line. Then remove them entirely. My initial thought was an export.
I guess I'm asking for expert advice on what might be the best way to do this? I'm pretty new to the whole DBA thing, sorry. This is probably an easy one.
Thanks!

I would recommend a full export. [3eyes]

If you decide to backup the db files (cold backup), there is a chance you may not be able to recover in the event the Oracle software is upgraded to a newer version.

With an export, you are able to recover individual tables if necesary.

Good luck!

Thank you. That was my initial thought, I just needed to reaffirm that.

Hi,
Given enough storage space doing BOTH is the safest course..We Export critical tables, etc. Daily ( late night when no activity is underway) and do a Cold backup bi-weekly..
