I am trying to use XML to update a SQL server database from XML in files. The handling of the files and preparing an XML document in SQL server is carried out by a fairly old program that seems to be having trouble with the file.
What I need to know is, what it is reasonable to expect in the way the file is presented. I don't have control over the file, and I would prefer not to have to amend the program that loads the files.
The files seem to have each element on its own line as in:
<HEADER>
<FIELD1>Field one value<\FIELD1>
</HEADER>
Is this reasonable or should the entire document be on a single line in the file?
Also, is it valid to have multiple XML "datasets" in the same file?
If it is valid, how do I know when one set ends and the next starts? Do I need the program to parse the XML to look for a second <HEADER> entry?
