what do I need to beware of if I am buying a cheap usb hard drive to work on between 2 XP OS machines. Are there going to be grief for me doing this.
Thanks
Graeme

There is always the potential for grief with usb. Look thoroughly through this site to see if any patches are needed for the XP machines:

Just remember USB2 is around 40X faster than USB1, the old standard is pretty sloooooooow especially for something like a hard drive, so go for USB2.
If you don't have USB2 on your systems it will be worth buying two PCI to USB2 cards at around $20 each, these will make a dramatic differance to external hard drive performance and data transfer rates. Martin
