I am starting a small color flyer mailing campaign this week to about 1,500 lawyers in my local area concentrating on new system sales.

What type of advertising have you guys found to be the most effective?

you can cold call companies if you have a lot of time but for every 1000 you call you might get one that is interested and for every 10 interested you get one that gives you business so it is time consuming and not very effective. The stats are just off my head though and probably not accurate but you get the point that it is very challenging to get business with that.

I have heard cold calling is UP to 2% effective. I don't like it and my 50 call have resulted in 0 jobs. Flyers are not much more effective but focus on solving a problem not offering features. Business cards can be effective as well as word of mouth, problem with W.O.M. is you need to have customers first.
 
I have a PO box for the company because it takes too long for delivery to our shop. I drive to the post office to pick it up daily. I toss all advertising and other junk mail into the trash barrel before I leave the post office, without even looking at it, along with almost all the other po box subscribers. I don't think mailing flyers will be very productive, and telemarketing is completely out of control these days, so I hang up on all telemarketers pretty quickly. I don't like doing that, but they're pretty persistent and leave me no other choice. Referrals are the best, and knocking on doors, although painful for all involved, is still our third most effective method of attracting new customers, behind referrals and internet inquiries.
 
All my business so far for telecom systems has been via referrals. What methods do you use for door to door, materials, brochures etc.
 
You can also try to get in with some commercial real estate agents/brokers.
