Advantages of DV camcorder

I've been thinking about buying a DV camcorder.
But my question is if it's worth the money. When I try to edit and capture a video from my hi-8 camcorder, I just have a such a hard time. But with all the software coming out, it looks like doing all that with a DV cam is so easy. So what are the advantages of DV over regular video camcorders ???

i had until two days ago a sony pc4 but it was stolen in calais, therefore i'm looking for a slightly cheaper alternative to this dv unit,the main problem i saw with buying a hi-8 is as you say the capturing, but there are units for around £250-600 that convert the analogue signal to firewire, so with that i suggest you buy a converter and firewire card for the pc and save the money against a brand new camera, obviously it depends what your finished video goes to but i'm compressing to divx so i dont need the quality of digital, other than price and slightly better quality there isn't alot of difference between these two formats and if you get a converter it WILL get rid of whatever problems you have with analogue capture because there's nothing to convert and mess up.

Nobody can make the value judgement for you as to whether the advantages of DV outweigh the added cost. However, the only comment I'd like to add to what's above is my exception to the statement that DV offers only slightly better quality over High 8.

Not long ago I sold my approximately $31,000 Betacam camera after making a nearly year-long comparison between Beta SP and DV. In most cases DV was as good, in one area is was not as good, and in a few areas it was BETTER.

My conclusion is that DV is suignificantly better than ANY of the consumer or pro-sumer formats, including High 8.
