What are the advantages and disadvantages in using the Legato Microsoft SQL module for backing up MS SQL databases? Could some one explain why using Legato to perform this function is better way to go than using the standard SQL maintenance plans to dump SQL to flat files and then have the standard NetWorker client dump those files to tape (or lower cost disk).

I'm not familiar with Legato so I can't tell you why or if it is better. We prefer to perform SQL Backups with native SQL commands. The backup files are then copied to tape by our Enterprise backup software. We used the ArcServe SQL Agent a few years ago but decided not to use any agent software in favor of the native backup. We like the performance and the ease of backup and restore. If you want to get the best answer for your question read faq183-874 and faq183-3179.
