I've been fighting with getting the software for my HP ScanJet 5300c scanner to work on my Windows 2000 computer. It is installed, with the latest drivers, service packs, ect, the computer recognizes the hardware, and the software starts up, but half way through loading it, it grinds the floppy drive and freezes. To top it all off, the scanner works just fine on my other computer, which sports ME.
I've spent five hours on the phone with HP being out-sorced and finding no luck. But on Microsoft's website, I finally discovered something which addresses my problem:
"In Windows 2000, when you start a program that uses a small computer system interface (SCSI) peripheral device (for example, a Hewlett Packard ScanJet 5P scanner), the program may stop responding (hang).
CAUSE
This problem may occur when you use a SCSI adapter that contains the Advansys 3550 chipset (Advansys 3550 Ultra Wide SCSI Host Adapter) and you install the driver for the SCSI host adapter (Asc3550.sys) from the Windows 2000 CD-ROM. The Asc3550.sys driver may not correctly report the SCSI request blocks (SRB) status to the class driver."
I do not know how to fix this, as Microsoft offers no solution on its webpage, and wishes to charge $99 for technical support. Does anyone know how I might aquire an Advansys driver, or have any ideas of how to get around this?
Thank you all.
