I'm trying to set user security in 9.0 using Advanced Security. I've created several classes some of which don't need access to anything on the financials side.

When I deselect financial under the menu options, the program gives me warnings of dire consequences for doing this. I've looked unsuccessfully to find documentation that tells me what each tick box refers to and what un-ticking it will affect.

Do any of you have a source for more information on these tick boxes? I really don't have time to play with them to figure them out.

Thanks in advance!

Margaret

Please use the By Menu view and remove access to the forms navigated to by the menu structure in the Financial series.

If you use By Dictionary view, you can remove access to lookups and hidden system forms which can cause issues later.

Look at my Advanced Security FAQ KB

Thanks, David, but the link you provided says I don't have authority to view the page.

I have other issues besides the one I cited to solve.

Is there anything anywhere that tells you what each node affects? That would help me the most.

Margaret

a fair amount of the info you need is on the GP cds

AdvancedSecurity.pdf is the file you are looking for...

I know it was on my 1st cd and when I did a generic install it was left in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP - previous versions (older than 9) would most likely be in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Business Solutions\Great Plains

btw - get your partner to sign you up for the MS site. It has MUCH more info on it (help wise) than other places... Tech Tips is great, but it seems that the MS site is getting better and better (my two cents)

this help?

Thanks -- right now we have some issues to overcome with Microsoft and our leasing agent arguing over whether we have paid for support or not (we have), so the site is inaccessible until this is resolved.

I have printed off the 29 page Advanced Security pdf file, however it is woefully inadequate to the task at hand.

Margaret (still searching for other sources of information)

let's try this then --- can you get here? I think this is more of a microsoft public area, but not 100% sure if the var could keep you out or not (similar problem with our previous partner - previous as in 'never again' & 'happy we switched to someone that is half the country away'...

if not - tell me what the problem is and let's see if we can handle it through tek-tips...

I have updated the Advanced Security FAQ on this site to the current version.

Please see faq632-5500.

That FAQ page did the trick -- turning the option to return the table name that was denied access gave me what I needed.

Thanks!
