Advanced Preloaders

Hey. I have a question about advanced preloaders. I have created a movie that i want to act as a preloader. But, instead of just running the preloader while the main movie loads, I want the preloader to reflect the actual percentage of the amount of the main movie that is actually loaded. This is described somewhat in the Flash 4 Bible, but it is not clear enough to me and that is why I am here. Right now, my preloader is a seperate scene and not a simple movie clip as described in "the Bible". Can I apply a percentage value to a whole scene, or is "the Bible" stating that you can only apply a percentage value to a movie clip? If that is the case, should I create a movie clip and import the swf my "test scene" produces of the preloader? Please help. THANKS!!
