Help please, I have had broadband now for 5 months or so and have been using it via a telephone extension lead.
The problem is I have to keep running the lead in and out when I want to surf.
So I have purchased a Slave telephone socket and 4 core telephone wire.
When I opened up my master socket to attatch the new wires I found that it has 6 wires on pins 1 to 6.
Do I need to purchase a 6 core wire or can I leave 2 out ?
And if so which pins do I connect to ?

Normal telephone is 3&4. 2nd line is usually 2&5. no telling what 1&6 are.
I suspect that you will want to connect your 4 wire to pins 2 to 5.
You could also use a voltmeter to verify this. Phone line will have 48v DC roughly on it not ringing and all phones onhook.

hello razled,
Why not put a splitter at the wall jack. Run one line to your modem. Put a filter in the other one and run that one to your phone.

I runn off an extension lead/splitter at mo, but its a pain as the pc is in living room, and have to run cable to hall way, was going to put cable/new socket in. Will try wiring 2-5.

Thanks, if it dosnt work can always use the 4 cable as a draw cable to pull the six core in !

Telephone system uses only 2 wires. Unless you have something you haven't mentioned, you'll only need 2 wires. And if you hook them up backwards everything will work except TTdialing with older TTphones.
