ADSL PIX 515E DHCP

Hi All,

Tommorrow I will be having the local cable operator install a 2M/256K ADSL line for internet access at our company.

The cable operator has sent me literature advising me that the box (router) they fit at my site has a IP Address of 192.168.254.254 and also acts as a DHCP server.

Is is ok to point my PIX 515 outside interface to get its IP address, mask, etc., via the new ADSL router (DHCP Server)? Will this cause me any problems? Do I need to buy a globally unique IP address from my ISP or is this now the normal thing to do ?!

hi,
i was having problems with the cable modem setup I have. I finally got this config to work..



ip address outside dhcp setroute
ip address inside 192.168.x.x 255.255.255.0

global (outside) 1 interface
nat (inside) 1 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 0 0

HI.

For most outbound access, you'll be fine with that address.

However some VPN and multimedia or other network services might have problems.
