Ok, hoping you guys can help me with this one because its seriously driving me crazy! Bear with me,
this is a story and a half....
I have two computers at home, one runs Windows ME the other Windows 98.
Both were networked together and worked perfectly.
Only one computer was connected to the Internet (the windows ME one) so I used internet connection sharing.
At this point everything is working perfectly!
Then I got an ADSL modem installed.
Everything is still working perfectly, both computers can access the net etc at blazing speed.
Here is where things went badly wrong.
While setting up a mail program I decided to try and assign a IP (one of the ones meant for internal
networks) to the network card, big mistake. Something went wrong and the network no longer worked, the
Internet connection was still fine.
I panicked and figured that if I uninstalled the adapters etc from the Control Panel> Network Windows
would redectect it and set it up all fine.
In doing so I accidentally uninstalled the Dial Up Adapter and protocols!
Windows redected the Network and installed it, so now the Network is working fine, but the internet
connection is history!
After spending ages on the phone to the helpdesk they managed to get the Dial Up adapter listed once
more as a device and the TCP/IP protocols reinstalled. (Uninstalled Dial Up Networking and then reinstalled
it)
However.... the internet connection still doesnt work! It connections fine and the connected icon sits
in the corner looking pretty but I cant send or received email and I cant surf the web!
Further more, when I go to windows set up to try and install Internet Connection Sharing it tells me
that my network is not completely set up, go back and do that.
Im at my wits end! Ive run the windows networking wizard on both computers, Ive uninstalled the ADSL
modem and reinstalled it. Further more my other internet connections dont appear to be working, they
were always a little tempramental to start with so Im not sure if its related.
Can anyone help me? Please!
