Greetings all,
This is my first time tring to set up a VPN connection so please feel free to share your experience and knowledge.

ok.. here's what I have. A ADSL connection, a Linksys DSL router BEFSR41, PcAnywhere 10.5 and a Windows Small business 2000 Server.

I have a clients desktop with XP home edition on it that I want to give VPN access first.

The router is also the DHCp server for the lan.

-----
All I want to do is connect to the W2K server from the XP home desktop or any other desktop - say for example a win2000pro machine - using the VPN connection from the linksys router and also using PcAnywhere 10.5 as the remote assitance software.

I've read a fair amount of information about all the products mentioned above and I'm still am unable to establish a vpn connection.

This is the error I get when I try to establish a vpn session on my vpn connection which I created under start>settings>Network Connection> on the xp home desktop.

Error: 800: unable to establish the vpn connection. The VPN server may be unreachable, or security parameters may not be configured properly for this connection.

On the side question:
When a click on my VPN connection under start>settings>Network Connection> I created and try to set up a vpn session before using pcanywhere to do the remote work, can you tell what username and what password they are asking me to use? Is it the routers username and password or the users win2000 server username and password. I've tried both and I can not get in my lan.

Is there any thing more I have to do on the router? I've enabled ipsec passthrough and pptp pass through.

Thanks for your help!

Regarding your PCanywhere issue

On the host computer you create your profile with user and password information. On your remote you need to creat a profile with the same user and password. As far as the linksys you need to forward the appropriate ports. Also, the linksys Befsr41 only allows one vpn at a time. In the vpn situatioin you need to configure the router with the appropriate ports. That is about all it takes.
