ADS and SQL Server

I have a really really stupid question here. I have a sql table that contains information about users in the system (about 400-500 users), and I would like to pull hte data from ADS. Does anyone know how I can accomplish this? My Director mentioned something about LDAP, but I don't know if he means LDAP Server, or just an LDAP transfer. I am pretty new to this. Thought maybe someone might know.
