adp Check box troubles

I'm building an .adp project in Access 2002 with a SQL 7.0 back end. I have a form that uses bound controls, including two checkboxes and an option button. They are bound to fields with a bit datatype.

They update correct;y when I have multiple records open (recordcount > 1) but if only one record is open, selecting the checkbox or option button causes Access to crash and shut down. No error message, just instant meltdown and an offer to "repair the database." What gives?
