Adobe illustrator crashes when launching

OK. It has been a long time since I've done anything with a mac. My daughter has a powerbook running os 10 with adobe suite installed. when she launches illustrator cs2 it crashes. the banner doesn't give any error messages. If I read down through the crash report. the last line looks like it is trying to load a chinese converter with an extension of .dylib. I know this is not very descriptive, but I was hoping this could be a starting point. I was hoping someone might be able to point me to someone or some where for assistance.

First step when any app acts up is to trash prefs. Hard drive/user/library/Adobe illustrator/Adobe illustrator prefs.

While still in user/prefs also trash "com.adobe.illustrator.plist"

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4
