Adobe distiller 6.0 - failing to create PDF

Thank you to everyone who helped me solve my InDesign problem. Project is now almost complete but I am falling at the last hurdle. When I preflight my InDesign document all seems well and a postscript file is successfully created using Distiller 6.0. But when I then try to create a PDF from the PS file, I receive an error message and no PDF is created. It reports that it is missing the Helvetica font, yet Helvetica is not used at all in my document. Why does this occur and how can I get roundthe problem to successfully create a PDF?

...if your certain that helvetica is not used, then you can force the postscript file through distiller by changing the settings under the fonts tab (when embedding fails)...

...personally I would just export to pdf directly from indesign rather than printing to ps, it is more straight forward and that way you can create a pdf that supports transparency, if transparency is used in the indesign document...

...i also believe the helvetica font is used for slug lines (date, time etc) when creating prints with crop marks enabled...

...i would ensure helvetica is installed somewhere accessible to your applications to avoid this issue...

Helvetica is used for the page description part of "printer's marks" when you use them on the pdf. If you leave that out when printing the the ps file it should generate the pdf.

I recently had the same thing on my backup machine - finding that I had not installed the correct version of Helvetica. I found the right one on my main machine. You might want to search your machine for helvetica.
