Adobe Acrobat Pro Can't Copy and Paste?

I have a ton of pdfs I am converting to htmls and or word and or text files. Some of them I am not able to copy and paste from. I do not know why as all the permissions are set to allowed. Some were created from InDesign CS3 and some from InDesign CS2 yet that does not seem to be a consistent variable effecting my inability to copy and paste from the pdfs.

When I copy and paste these little alien head symbols appear in place of text.
