Adobe Acrobat Pro 6 error: limitcheck

I'm getting this error message, verbatim. OS is WinXP32, SP3 with most current updates; machine is Core2Quad with 8GB ram; we are outputting from Autodesk AutoCAD 2007 to Adobe Acrobat Pro 6 using AutoCAD's plot command and selecting Adobe PDF as the printer; files are map files with 1-10 TIFFs and/or JPEGs referenced into them, each image running 10-100 MB.

In tests, reducing the output dpi is actually making the pdf filesize larger.

At a different job I successfully used this same setup to produce very large PDF output (up to about 100MB) from map files that had satellite imagery up to 1-2 GB per image, so I know it can be done.

Acrobat Pro 6 prefers tall narrow images to wide ones. Try using the Acro Pro 6 option to Create PDF from Multiple files, and select the TIF's from there.
also, a technique I used to cut down the size of big PDF's was to Save As to JPEG 2000 file format. Then use the Create from Multiple Files again to make a PDF from the JPEG 2000 (.jpf) files that will be 3 to 10 times smaller than what you started with.
I developed these techniques working with scanned engineering drawings from our Public Works department - hope they'll help you too.
