Adobe Acrobat 5.0 & Highlighting

Have been unable to highlight all e-mail addresses and web site URLs on an acrobat 5 page. These are essentially business cards that have been assembled into a newsletter in Quark by someone else, then converted into an Acrobat file that I upload to a server. I have used Link tool and then highlighted those same URLs and e-mail addresses; some highlight but not all. Are there technical restrictions why some do not highlight?
