ADO Question / Sybase12 server

Do I need to buy a 3rd party ADO in order to create an application that will access data stored in Sybase 12?

Was just reading an article on ADOConnect from DataDirect who they sells it.

I am obviously a newbie to all of this but I thought ADO came with VB6. Will I need to buy something else to access Sybase?
