Hi All

Can anyone help, i recently reloaded my 2003 server and in my wisdon must have changed my admin password. I am now unable to access my box. I know when working on unix servers i used to be able to boot from my disk and amend this can the same be done on 2003 server?????

it gets worse
when i try to boot from my disc i get the prompt to boot from cd rom press any key but when i do this nothing happens it just boots my os. the keyboard works as i can access the bios and use it....has anyone experienced this before

Seems to be skipping over the key returns, try with another keyboard yet? As far as retrieving/resetting your password by using the install media, this is not possible. If you have another admin account you can login to you can reset the password of the original admin account.

If this is in a domain you can use a member of the domain admin group to reset the password as well. Good luck in any case!

Thanks Cstorms

trouble is this was a fresh build before i moved house so its been locked away for a couple of months tried some of the usual accounts i load on this box but i suspect i finished building the server and didnt go any further.
Tried two different keyboards and a different cdrom all seem to do nothing at the press any key to boot cdrom but work for everything else. I have a usb stick think i will try copying it onto this and boot from the stick

Try using no password at all. Perhaps you didn't set a password.

Otherwise, do a search at the Microsoft site - I remember an admin password reset tool out there somewhere...

I would recommend looking over the bios again, to ensure you have "boot from cdrom" enabled. Do you have a choice for boot menu? I know with Dells, you can hit F12, during post, and if the devices are enabled for boot, you can choose which device to boot from. Not sure if you have that capability....

Thanks guys ended having to reload over the top as even running a repair did not allow me to change password. All the keyboards i used were usb and although this was enabled in the bios there was also an additional setting to enable usb legacy support this allowed me to use the keyboard. It was a little odd as the keyboard worked for everything else except the hit key to boot from cdrom
